Club Reopening 07:00 Monday 26 April

April 23rd 2021

Dear member

I hope this finds you well and looking forward to a summer of hope as the vaccination programme reaches all adults in Scotland. After a hard slog, it does look like there’s light at the end of a very long tunnel. I’d like to thank you all for sticking with us and welcome all the new recruits who’ve just joined. As you’ll see in this email, we’ve got lots on offer at the baths over the coming months.

The First Minister confirmed lockdown restrictions are to be eased, meaning gyms and pools will be allowed to reopen. We’ll be back up and running from 7.00am this Monday 26 April. Obviously things aren’t completely normal yet, so please click for our Updated Safe Use Rules   as they’ll apply when we re-open. If you’ve any questions call or email the club before you visit or ask any of our staff when you arrive.

Notice is hereby given that the postponed 150th and the 151st Annual General Meetings of the Arlington Baths Club will take place on Wednesday 26th May at 7.00pm. The meetings will be held in accordance with Covid restrictions and further details will be sent to all members.

  1. 1. Report & Accounts for year ended 31st March 2020.
  2. 2. Report & Accounts for year ended 31st March 2021.
  3. 3. Election of Board Members.
  4. 4. Any Other Competent Business.

Last year was the 150th anniversary of the founding of the club. We had lots of plans which obviously had to be put off. Luckily for us, Sunday 1st August 2021 is the 150th anniversary of the club opening its doors, which gives us all the chance to celebrate the oldest surviving baths club in the country. Our talented member Brendon McIlroy has stepped in to help plan a programme of events. He’ll be emailing everyone, sharing ideas, looking for your thoughts and offering a chance to get involved. Brendon will be in touch very soon, but if you have any questions, do contact him by email meantime -

To thank you for your loyalty there are free chocolate treats in the foyer - enjoy one after your exercise! You may also remember at last lockdown easing, I offered you £10 to spend in the club at your leisure. These vouchers are still available and you can collect yours from the Poolside Office if you’ve not already done so. Use it to buy any of our merchandise, soft drinks, fresh ground coffee or one of our new Twinings flavoured teas. Or save it until restrictions are lifted further to celebrate with a couple of pals over a glass of wine or beer in our Members Lounge.

Last but not least, we’ve survived this long, because generations of members like you, stuck with us through extremely difficult and challenging times. The 150th anniversary of the club opening its doors on the 1st of August this year will be a very real cause for celebration. And hopefully I’ll see you at one or two of the free events.

Enough talk. Enjoy your swim on Monday!

Gordon McDougall
