Mandela, Glasgow and the Arlington

On the 40th anniversary of Nelson Mandela being awarded the Freedom of the City of Glasgow and the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Arlington Baths, Brian Filling, Honorary Consul for South Africa and Chair of the Nelson Mandela Scottish Memorial Foundation, joins Bernard Ponsonby, STV Special Correspondent, in conversation.

The discussion will cover the background to Glasgow’s decision to award Freedom of the City to Nelson Mandela in 1981; Mandela’s visit to Glasgow to collect the award in 1993; the Arlington Baths and Glasgow’s historical connection with Mandela and South Africa; and the campaign to create a statue of Mandela in Nelson Mandela Place.
